Pacific County Drainage District #1

The Pacific County Drainage District #1 serves the community of North Cove from the Grays Harbor County Line to the mouth of Willapa Bay. The Drainage District maintains a north to south ditch to remove storm water and also protects the district from salt water inundation.

The western border of the district, when formed in 1900, was the high tide line. Trees and houses now cover the land which built up from 1900 to 1950.

What happens if the sea destroys the floodgates?

This picture shows the tide gates in a non-functional open position. These covers hang straight down closing the culverts when the salt water tries to enter and open as pressure builds from the ditch run off.

In the picture below the orange line indicates where the tide gates are in Pacific and Grays Harbor Counties. The blue green outline on the map indicates the area that will fill with salt water if the tide gates fail.
